FEDA indoor mini helicopter test flying report.My living room is just an airport!

Don't worry about sunny or rainy outside,Let's play the micro helicopter in our home,because the airport is just in the living room.

What is Micro Helicopter? The living room is the airport where it can fly freely. How cool! I trust that many hobbyists will be curious about it, and be confused that it can fly inside. All of them have many questions in their mind. Why?

The original Micro Helicopter designed by two brothers who were born in Alexander, Germany, which was named ECO-PICCOLO. It arose a large stir when we given a demonstration at many exhibitions such as the biggest International Toy Fair opening 2000 in New York of Germany, American Toy Fair, and the International Toy Fair of 2001 opening Peking of China. It was in Chinese Toy Fair that I had pleasure to watch the flying performance of the ECO-PICCDO. Once the ECO-PICCOLO started to fly, lots of audiences were appealed. What a wonderful moment! All the audiences surrounded around at once, and made the small show become smaller and smaller. At the moment, there was a question that how the manipulator put down the model. We all stared at him. The model was just flying above the audience and put down slowly, then flying smoothly above him, poising for seconds. At last the manipulator took hold of the undercarriage with his left hand and received the speed stick, and then the airscrew was stopped. It is so easy to play ECO-PICCOLO. All of audiences were slack-jawed and given a large applause after several seconds.

Despite the Fair was such large and the models were various kind of, no one dared to give a show at the spot. This is the charm of the ECO-PICCOLO Mini Helicopter.

Of course! The big model can't fly inside, but my accompaniers who came from Shenzhen broaden their horizon and were on the scoop at the performance on the small TOM Mountain of Biking. 

‘Although the spadger is such small, the five internal organs are all in’ this is just said our ECO-PICCOLO. The Micro helicopter made in Shenzhen was improved on the basis of the ECO-PICCOL. Both of the size and the materials of the fuselage are the same. All screw wings are made of ABC mix plastic which is durable and all sticks are made of carbon fiber which is strong enough and isn't easy to break.

The construct of fuselage is very simple. Motor is the main system. It is placed at the middle of fuselage and brings along the main rotor gear directly to drive the main wing, in which we added two bearings specially. It not only made the act of flying smoothly, but also together with the main wing to protect the blade and the fuselage, because the main wing can part automatically once it was clashed. The design of main wing is immutable screw distance and is used the motor speed to control the rise and decline. The tail tube of fuselage whose running mode is motor instead of strap and bearing is also made of carbon fiber, and it use the motor speed to execute many kinds of actions.

The R/C parts are composed of four channels. The equipment must include one 4CH(or above) standard FM transmitter, one 4CH mini-receiver, two macro servos, three in one exact R/C (Main motor R/C, tail motor R/C, mix of main motor and tail motor control the three in one. It is not standard parts and can't be bought at the market. The manufacturer fixes it on PCB plate. Customer must buy it together with the R/C), and one gyro which is indispensable mini exact parts (it is at the middle between the rudder of receiver and speed control line of the rail motor, automatically, to control the speed of the tail blade and level off the tail of helicopter to not sway till it rotate without no way to control. Distributions of 4CH as below: The throttle in receiver controls the main blade to made the helicopter rise or decline; The aileron controls the swash-plate of the helicopter to move left- and- right; Elevator controls the swash-plate of helicopter to move up-and-down, and the fuselage will fly up-and-down; The rudder controls the motor speed of helicopter to make the tail of helicopter to turn around. Generally, the tail of helicopter should toward as pilot. The battery pack is 8.4v600mAh of NI-MH and the fight weight is 270g. The fight time is 6-10 minutes.

The fuselage of FEDA was completed nearly. We only needed to place the balance stick of aileron in the midst, and then fit up the main wing. After the rest parts such as receiver and servo was all struck on the relevant place of the helicopter and joint in all lines as per the instruction. Ok, we can test flying. But we should pay attention if the test is the first. We can use another motor or the tail motor instead of the main motor, and then tested the R/C whether it right or wrong.

We will start our test flying course once everything is ready. This time was different from previously.

You don't need to find special ground and also worry about the weather. It is only to assemble the body of the model that we can test flying at the limited exhibition.

My hand sweat and heart skip. Once I push the speed stick, the “guy" pangs to leave the ground above the ground one meter. It slopes left slightly and the tail stick is not easy to control. I at once move the aileron to right and put down right stick. But the act is still late. The body of the model still crashed the left glass counter and lain on the ground. The body and main wing was separated two parts. I run to check up right away. It is just not broken a bit. It was my tension and hurrying flying mood caused by the around audience that I don't remember to adjust the gyro and the transmitter was adjusted high slightly. At the moment, I should adjust the receiver slightly, and switch on the tube lights. Meanwhile, the GAIN should be turned to the maximum deasil.

I let the crowd to keep a distance from me and relax myself.  After connecting the power supply, the green light on the electronical board was turned on.  Then I pushed the throttle stick one more time, the main blades started rotating and the helicopter rised up and then in hover.  This helicopter didn't let me disappointed, it can be in hover in such the limited space.  Next, I tested the precision of tail motor and gyro with doing the rotation around an origin, it's nice.  And then moved towards and backwards, very well.  And then flied following the number '8'...  The mini-helicopter performed well in all the tests and it was as good as 30-class engine helicopter expect some 3D stunts.  This is because the pitch of main blades is fixed and can't be adjusted.

It only remains 4 to 5 minutes at the first flying. Maybe it wasted some electric voltage at the debugging. When I turned the speed stick to the maximum, it had no energy to fly high and fly unsteadily. After 1 to 2 minutes, the “guy “can't fly any more. It should be discharged. In a general way, although the NI-MH has no memory, the model should be discharged for 4 to 5 times and then the efficiency can be made the best of. In the following flying, each actual flight time of the helicopter was about 6 to 7 minutes.

I install the battery charged again, and change a place to play the model outside. Just I go out of the door; a hot wind was blowing on my face. Shenzhen is a city near the sea. There always have a wind in summer, but today it is not heavy. Although I am outside, it is hard to find a space because of the to-and-fro people. Without further ado I play it at the gate of my exhibition room. Let the treading people come to surround. It is not so crowed that the screw propeller hurt them. All right, ready to fly, they are all surprised to stare at the screw wing which is running with swish at the ground. The helicopter flies smoothly from the ground, which don't like to have someone to control it but like the sight of the surrounding people to carry it up. It varies with the sight. Sometimes it rise and down.

Micro helicopter is worthy of the name. It is easy for veteran hobbyist and a good choice for the hobbyist who has no experience. There are many troubles to play the gas Helicopter. It is very expensive, large losses, dangerous and large pressure except the necessary place, time and whether. Of course, the advantage of gas helicopter will be very interesting once you learned how to control it. It is unshakable that the station of “the overlord in sky".

Compared with the effect of the Micro helicopter, the feeling of hand for the model is not above the gas helicopter. As far as the person who can play the model is concerned, he will feel that it is not agiler than his gas helicopter and can't satisfy a craving.

Even now, the emergence of the helicopter ,from that Germany's piccolo" and the FEDA made in Shenzhen to the Japanese HIROBO which is a red flying saucer. Indeed, brought a large echo in the filed of air model, not only be fond by the hobbyist in Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Thailand...etc. but also be fond by the hobbyist in far away area of Ningxia, Xinjiang,Gansu.

Some hobbyist made it as collection. It is a workmanship when it is place at home.  

Make a comprehensive survey of the development in the filed of air model, the factor of the model and the hobbyist aren’t satisfied with the static models with the development of the model. It is realistic and rigid. But dynamic is agile and unrealistic. Some static model can be executed some actions and controlled. For example, the static model made in Ben Gong of Japan can’t be found any stain. The performance of the RC model 4ch RC, which opening at 2001 Beijing air model Fair, developed by there made every audience satisfied. The model is complete scale and unique fine, and the action of the RC is complete. If you can see Jet Plane which is worth ten million at the Tom Mountain, you will be satisfied, and you also have a pleasure to watch the performance of the sky flight.  

Although the micro helicopter isn’t very scale or needn’t so scale, it is the completely Micro helicopter. It does not like other helicopter so complicated. Home is just the airport. The construct is very simple, for the able person; there will be a desire to design the helicopter. Therefore, if you can have this helicopter, you can read a dream of RC airplane.

(Note: the micro helicopter sold at present has much improvement and update such as figure, construct, control-box, and etc. higher capability of flight; the time of flight increase to ten minutes because of the lighter weight of the model.)
